Prior legal cases and global responses

A different activist formerly involved with the group, Lina E., emerged as a cause celebre within certain radical left communities following her 2023 guilty verdict for targeting suspected right-wing individuals.

America's terrorist listing makes group members ineligible to enter the United States, blocks financial holdings they could possess within the American economy and criminalizes providing material support to them.

The German right-wing AfD party applauded the American move and urged the German administration to follow suit. However, the German foreign ministry simply stated it had “taken note” of the US designation.

“The danger from the organization has substantially diminished lately. The ringleaders and particularly violent members have received convictions or remain detained.”
